bawtry phoenix young players

Welcome to the page for the Bawtry Phoenix Young Players. The Young Players consists of three groups our Mini Players and then two Senior groups. Our main aim is to develop children’s understanding and ability within the Performing Arts disciplines (Acting, Singing and Dancing). Whilst we offer training and an intense level of development, we also offer a safe space for children to express themselves and form strong bonds as well as creating lifelong memories and rewarding experiences. Just read our reviews at the bottom of the page and you will see that we deliver on our promises.

Performing Arts is a fantastic way for children to build themselves in Self-Belief, Confidence, Communication and Team Building. We also have a great reputation within the local community and the Performing Arts industry within the South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire area.

The Young Players was started in 2006 by Tony Jones who ran the group for 10 years, when Tony retired Chloe Whitehouse stepped into the role and after her departure for China our current Leader Jonah Thompson was appointed in her place. All three of these have a vast amount of knowledge and experience spanning over 100 years and this knowledge is passed onto our Young Players which puts our group at a huge advantage compared to other youth theatres.

Our two senior groups (Broadway and West End) are for children aged 11-18 who perform two shows a year. The groups run on a Saturday morning between 11am and 1pm and 1:30pm and 3:30pm. Our fees are affordable at £20 per month and £10 membership fee these low fees do not reflect on the high level of training and development your child will receive but what they do mean is that money does not stand in the way of talent. Our groups are open to anyone no matter previous experience. We do have a capacity of 50 and at the time of writing this we are full but please do still enquire and you will be added to a waiting list and as soon as a place is available you will be contacted.

Our third group is new as of September 2022. Due to high levels of demand, we have opened our newest group the Bawtry Mini Players a group for children aged 6-10. This group offers a smaller group the chance to master the basics of Performing Arts before moving to one of our senior groups for more advance lessons. This group is expertly run by Emma Spencer who again has years of experience within the sector. Our Minis produce one show a year as well numerous showcases throughout the year.

Our recent production, ‘Sound of Music’

Here at Bawtry we are not just about Performing Arts we are about our family and anyone who becomes a member is part of our family. We look out for each other and support all our children in whatever they chose and whoever they are. We offer so much more than just training we offer social experiences too such as trips to other theatres, film nights, and other types of trips such as paintballing or seaside visits.

At Christmas, Halloween and at the end of each show there is a party provided by us to celebrate all the children’s efforts and achievements. We have an annual awards evening (The BAPTA’s) where the children vote for each other for awards such as best performer, biggest team player and we also select one recipient a year to be inducted into our Hall of Fame. This is a prestigious award for children who have shown dedication, commitment, long service, development, and resilience.

Members range from 9 to 18 years

Our main asset is our own theatre which is fully equipped with the latest Sound and Lighting equipment and workshop for our own sets and props to be designed and built.

Due to the fact we have our own theatre we also show children the inner workings of putting on a show so they see the full event from start to finish and this helps them to learn respect for every aspect of theatre life from Front of House to Sound development this is yet again another aspect that most other youth groups cannot offer.
