Acoustic Roots Duo, Mambo Jambo

music nights

Our ‘Music Live’ events have become a regular and extremely popular feature of the Bawtry Phoenix Theatre calendar. The aim is to provide a relaxed evening in a pleasant atmosphere, with a drink and good music - what more could one want at the end of a busy week!
The evenings usually feature three groups or individuals and we have covered a wide range of music - traditional folk music with a wide variety of instruments, accordions, melodeon, pipes, flutes, clarinets and drum, some french folk music and we have even had a choir singing traditional folk songs and spirituals.

We have had some jazz and some well known and not so well known ballads, as well as a very entertaining teller of tales and on another occasion, Barnsley poet, Ian McMillan.
The evenings are organised by Barrie Scully, the lead singer of 'Best of Intentions' who have more or less become our 'house group'. They play a variety of blues and popular well known ballads, as well as some instrumental arrangements.

On 15th June our Music Night will feature Acoustic Roots duo, 'Mambo Jambo'. Start time 7:30pm with doors opening 6:45pm for pre-concert refreshments. Tickets can be reserved by calling Barrie on 01302 770992.

With Frankie on sax, vocals, clarinet, flute, guitar and percussion and Pete on guitar, vocal, ukulele, tres (traditional Cuban guitar), banjo, accordion and suitcase, they’ll take you on an exciting and joyous musical journey bringing together sounds from roots, world, folk and jazz, plus their own compositions.
