Bawtry Phoenix Young Players

This incredible group of young people, aged 8 - 18 years, is the youth section of the Bawtry Amateur Dramatic Society.  Our aim is to make drama/ performing arts accessible to all, regardless of ability, experience or background.
On Saturdays we engage in a wide variety of activities with the aim of improving performance, interactive and social skills, mainly focussed on drama, but also incorporating music and dance.
We aim to build confidence and, most importantly, have a good time. We deliver two major productions a year, generally one musical and one drama. We pride ourselves on the high standards of performance and our shows are always sold out.  We are also branching out and are starting to perform within the local community.
At present there are over forty members. We are a friendly, inclusive group and many of the members come from all over Doncaster and South Yorkshire.
Our greatest asset is our theatre. The children learn, rehearse and perform in a real theatre which we all love and respect. They learn about the way a theatre works, including the technology of sound and lighting, set building and Front of House management. These are things that most other youth groups cannot offer!
Our fees are £5 per session.  Although the fees are low, it does not reflect the training, it is simply because we wish to make the performing arts accessible to everyone. We meet at the theatre every Saturday during school terms. Also we ask parents to pay £10 per year for a membership fee so that their child/children are fully included within theatre life.
We also run trips throughout the year to other theatres to see a wide range of shows, plays, concerts and dancers including a trip to the West End. As well as entering children in to competition and graded exams.

We now operate two classes, one for those attending primary school, and one for those who attend secondary school. However, we tend assign groups more on ability than age.
Juniors from 10:00am – 12:00pm
Seniors from 12:00pm – 2:00pm.

It is led by Jonah Thompson, who has a wide range of experience in theatre, performing and directing. He has appeared in over 50 shows including Hairspray (Edna Turnblad), Annie (Rooster) and Sister Act (Pablo)
