Folk & Blues @ the Phoenix

Folk and Blues nights have become a regular and extremely popular feature of the Bawtry Phoenix Theatre calendar. The aim is to provide a relaxed evening in a pleasant atmosphere, with a nice drink and good music - what more could one want at the end of a busy week!

The evenings usually feature three groups or individuals and we have covered a wide range of music - traditional folk music with a wide variety of instruments, accordions, melodeon, pipes, flutes clarinets and drum, some french folk music and we have even had a choir singing traditional folk songs and spirituals. We have had some jazz and some well known and not so well known ballads as well as a very entertaining teller of tales!

The evenings are organised by Barrie Scully, the lead singer of 'Best of Intentions' who have more or less become our 'house group'. They play a variety of blues and popular well known ballads, as well as some instrumental arrangements.

It would probably be fair to say that if one is a 'folk' purist, this is not an evening for them - the idea is to provide a mix of music and hopefully there will be something in the evening that most people will enjoy.

Although tickets can be purchased on the door we would advise buying them before the night at Dickies Newsagents, Station Rd, Bawtry, as the last two evenings have been a sell-out.
